Leonard Cohen on young nazi's

Standing on a rooftop in Paris, Cohen, sometime in the early 90's is being interviewed for TV and he is asked what he would say to a young Nazi if he were alone in a room with one and Cohen, in the clip i link to below, instead of giving the obvious and typical boilerplate answer condemning Nazi's and so fourth gives a beatiful and strikingly insightful answer which speaks to a large void in our current poltical culture and in our culture as a whole aswell. Enjoy:

Q: Could you imagine if you where alone with a young Nazi and, like, arguing with, what would you say?

Leonard Cohen: "I would probably have a great deal in common with a young Nazi. Ya know. I believe in a life in discpline, i believe in a life that is...convicted, in other words, in a life that is constracted to a certain kind of end, a life that is...imbued with a cretain signifgance. I believe in those aims. i believe its unfornutante that the fascists are the only one producing this kind of appeal and i urge the instuitions of the center, the liberal, the conservative instuitions that we believe reprsent the highest ideals of the west, i urge them to produce rhetoric and inviation to the youth that has the same kind of vitality and signifgance that the right wing is begining to be able to present."
